BIASED DECISION MAKING
A study conducted in 2015 by a group researchers found that more than 60% of the interviewers make their decision within the first 15 minutes and 20% of the interviewers make their decision within the first 5 minutes itself. So when an interview goes on beyond the first 15 minutes, it is more likely that we use the remaining time looking for evidence to justify our initial decision. It’s no surprise that research shows interviews only have a 50% chance of accurately identifying talent given the impact of social biases (race, gender, etc.) have on our first impression. Hence the multiple rounds to find the middle ground.
